John Ferry has been involved in the production of documentary films for over three decades, working closely with Academy Award winning filmmaker Robert Snyder on such films as Reflections: R. Buckminster Fuller for the Unites States Information Agency, Claudio Arrau: A Life in Music, Ruth Asawa: Of Forms and Growth, Willem de Kooning: Artist, The Vatican Collection, Michelangelo: Self-Portrait, Pablo Casals: A Cry for Peace, and Henry Miller: To Paint is to Love Again.
Sitting Bull: A Stone in My Heart is the first film produced for his and Grace De Soto Ferry's company, Lillimar Pictures. Their second feature-length docmentary, Contrary Warrior is a biographical film on the life of artist/activist and famed peace-pipe maker Adam Fortunate Eagle.
John has also written five screenplays (The Broken-Field Runner, Pieces of Dreams, Looking for Troy, How High the Moon and North of Marfa) and prior to working in film, he was very active in community theater, directing several plays, including Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie and John Osborne’s Look Back in Anger. He studied acting and directing at Lawrence Merrick’s Princess Theater in Hollywood with Joan Huntington and Robert Broyles and has a BA in Theater Arts and an MA in cinema.
Sitting Bull: A Stone in My Heart marks Grace De Soto Ferry’s first effort as a producer and writer. She has since produced her second documentary feature, Contrary Warrior: The Life and Times of Adam Fortunate Eagle. She is currently involved with writing projects, which focus on her experiences as a child growing up in Texas.
